Our Story

LifeSupport "officially" launched in 1997. But it really got it's start in 1991.

It started as an intellectual exercise. I had never really processed the abortion issue. It just wasn't on my radar. I had graduated from business school and was busy and focused on goals and applying my knowledge and skills in business. 

And then I made a decision that would forever change me. I decided to get my arms so to speak around what happening in our nation with abortion. It was somewhat hidden to me. I'm really not even sure why I decided to study it. 

I was shocked at the numbers. I couldn't have imagined they would be so large. And there seemed to be two equally impassioned sides. Who was right? On the surface, both seemed to have valid points. The pregnancy mattered. But so did the woman facing an unplanned pregnancy. I thought both mattered. 

The more I studied, the more clear the issue became. I could no longer sit by the sidelines, occupied with my pursuits, and do nothing. Focus on the Family featured us in one of their magazines and we got exposure that guided us to where we are today.

Back in 1991 I joined the Board of Directors of our local pregnancy center. What got us hooked, and turned our world upside down was how impressed my wife and I were with the way they cared for clients as they faced unplanned pregnancies. They truly loved both the client and her baby. Our local center’s budget has grown from $35,000 to over $450,000 –and we’ve seen the difference a larger budget can make on our center’s ability to expand its ministry. In 1997 LifeSupport launched nationwide to give centers and pro-life ministries access to high-level donor development and communication resources and services.

LifeSupport’s goal is to provide centers with FORTUNE 500-level communication, marketing and donor support that doesn’t cost a fortune. We know that this is the quickest (and least expensive) path to significantly increase giving to your work. Donors give to organizations that they see are operating at the highest levels of professionalism. The credibility and leverage we can create by matching more closely the level of your communications/image with the importance of your work can provide the funds you need to add services and broaden your impact.

We saw a need and desire for centers to move to the next level of professionalism in how they present themselves to donors and clients. We’ve seen firsthand the value of increasing both the number of donors and giving with a more strategic approach to donor development.
